India, Pakistan in Stubborn Standoff. Under intense international pressure to prevent their conflict from exploding into full-scale war, the leaders of Pakistan and India both claimed Monday that their aim is to fight terrorism ÷ and they refused to budge in their standoff over Kashmir. [AP World News]

It seems to me that we could put the US soldiers who are currently pursuing wild geese to productive use. Why not located the Pakistani nuclear capability, and send American soldiers to destroy it? Sure, the Pakistanis wouldn't like that, but they're our enemies anyway.

This quote from Musharraf is particularly disturbing: ear arsenal was in safe hands. "Let me assure the whole world that our nuclear assets are in extremely safe hands and there is no vulnerability of these at all," he said. He's just saying they won't be stolen, he never says he won't use them!

I have one of the European versions of this for testing at work. It's oversized and clumsy, and the desktop integration doesn't work very well.

CIA Pressing for Palestinian Reform. CIA Director George Tenet arrived Monday to press the Palestinians to revamp their security services with the aim of stopping attacks against Israel. Meanwhile, the militant Islamic group Hamas rejected an offer to join a new Palestinian Cabinet likely to be announced in coming days. [AP World News]

Since the Palestinian security services are among those doing the attacking, revamping them is unlikely to do much good.
