The International Criminal Court endangers the free press. [OpinionJournal]
The United Nations tribunal investigating war crimes in the Balkans ruled that retired Post reporter Jonathan Randal, who is American, can be forced to testify about what he saw in Bosnia in 1993. If he doesn't comply, the court can instruct the French police to pick up Mr. Randal in Paris, where he now lives.
This explains why the reporter can't just ignore the UN. I still oppose UN "tribunals" and "International Criminal Courts," but I'm no longer so sympathetic towards Mr. Randal. He made a choice to live in France, and it's certainly no secret to anyone that France is a socialist country. He knew what he was getting into.

Waitress Stops Mass Murder in New York. When Buddhist actor Richard Gere urged a concert crowd in Madison Square Garden last October to meet terrorism with 'love, compassion and understanding,' the audience booed and jeered. This month, Rabbi Yakove Lloyd announced that - in response to terrorist threats - Jews would begin patrolling Brooklyn neighborhoods with shotguns.
Call it the 'Spirit of 9-11.' A silent mobilization is sweeping the city. New Yorkers, young and old, are coming to grips with the fact that it is better to die fighting than to simply die.
Unfortunately, city officials don't agree. The gap between official and grassroots New York revealed itself with stunning clarity last weekend, when two unarmed women showed more courage than the whole city government put together. [FirearmNews.com]
I think the author is too kind to New Yorkers, personally, but it's a good article nonetheless.

Afghans Resent U.S. Treatment. In one raid, U.S. forces storm a home and arrest the owner, only to release him hours later. In another, soldiers tie the hands of female suspects, breaking a strict local taboo against touching women. [AP World News]
This is hardly surprising--it's been obvious almost from the beginning that the US was headed down the same road as the Russians. There's probably still time to repair the damage by giving up on treating Afghanistan as a conquered territory, but I don't think there's much chance that anyone in Washington will do that.

I've added a new article to the "Gun-free Britain" page.
