N. Korea Withdraws From Nuclear Arms Pact [AP World News]

This version of the story doesn't even mention the North Koreans are doing this to shake down the US for oil. I guess the BBC is still slightly less worthless than the US mainstream media. Funny how leftists like to insist that all US foreign policy decisions are centered on oil, but they don't even mention oil when fellow leftists are involved.

North Korea nuclear drama escalates. North Korean diplomats meet a former US ambassador as Pyongyang pulls out of the Nuclear Non-proliferation Treaty. [BBC News | Front Page | UK Edition]

For some reason the BBC barely mentioned the reason for this move:

But a North Korean diplomat in Beijing said Pyongyang would "reconsider" its withdrawal from the NPT if the US resumed shipments of fuel oil.

'Felony stop' leaves family traumatized. It was the most traumatic experience the Smoak family of North Carolina has ever had, and it happened yesterday afternoon as they traveled through Cookeville on their way home from a vacation in Nashville.

Before their ordeal was over, three members of the family had been yanked out of their car and handcuffed on the side of Interstate 40 in downtown Cookeville, and their beloved dog, Patton, had been shot to death by a police officer as they watched.

What was their crime?

There was no crime. [Herald-Citizen]

I'd say there was a crime, and it was committed by the police.

Credit were due.... Do you realized that Chávez and his government have completely solved the the terrible traffic gridlock problem of Caracas? Should we send him to Los Angeles to soolve the problem there? I say all Venezuelans should sacrifice the president in order to help our fellow americans... [Tyromaniac]

Sad to say, he'd fit right in with LA politicians.

Only Bad People Need Guns. Flashbunny.org - Only Bad People Need Guns - the winning entry from six-year-old Charlie Bloomer in Flashbunny's "Children's Anti-Gun Contest". The words are anti-gun, but the picture sends an entirely different message. [rachel] [End the War on Freedom]

That six-year-old has captured the essence of the anti-gun arguement.

Here are some ways to stimulate the economy, save money, generate more revenues, and reward sacrifice:

1) Eliminate taxes for eveyrone that makes under $40k a year.  People that make under this amount spend their money right away.  Also, the adminstrative hassle of collecting and monitoring this income is extremely expensive.

2) Provide volunteers in the US military a 5 year tax holiday starting this year.  People that sacrafice for the good of the country should get a leg up in economic competition.

3) Eliminate the cap on social security earnings. Social security isn't a "real program" rather it is a fictional construct that draws from general tax revenues. [John Robb's Radio Weblog]

If taxes were eliminated for everyone making under $40,000 I would be strongly tempted to ask Symantec for a pay cut. On paper I make about $65,000 including bonuses, but after taxes I really only get about $45,000. I think a $5,000 pay cut would be worth it to deny the government $20,000.
