I came across this very interesting NPR interview with a gun store owner in Baghdad! The content of the interview isn't that important--it relates some tall tales the owner told (and which the ignorant reporter apparently swallowed whole) and talks about how gun sales are way up due to fears of invasion and chaos. The only gun for sale which is identified by name is a Colt Cobra revolver.

This is quite a surprise. All the coverage of Iraq that I've read has said that Saddam is a brutal dictator, "another Hitler," and so on in that vein. But dictators don't allow their subjects to go into a store and buy guns--you can't even do that in Washington, D.C.! Unfortunately, the socialists at NPR totally missed the implications of a gun store in Iraq. I don't know what, but it looks like something fishy is going on.

Israelis flatten West Bank shops. Bulldozers destroy more than 60 Palestinian shops and businesses Israel says were built without permits, sparking fierce protests. [BBC News | Front Page | UK Edition]

One of those periodic reminders that Israel, although better than the Arab countries, is still socialist. It's one thing to destroy the house of a terrorist, but quite another to destroy buildings because they didn't have "permits." Sadly, the same thing would probably happen in the US--or if it didn't, it would only be because the cops stopped the shops from being built in the first place.

California politicos sued for blackholing conservatives' email [Politech]

Apparently in California even the "conservatives" are willing to file bogus politically-motivated lawsuits. Suing politicians who don't want to read your email is more esoteric than suing gun manufacturers, but no less ridiculous and abusive of the legal system.

Defending the castle. Joel Miller at World Net Daily - Defending the castle - the story of a Long Island man who shot a person who broke into his house and then had all his guns stolen by the police. My take on this is that pretty soon folks who care about their property are going to start doing one of two things: 1) shoot, shovel, and shut up, or 2) make it mighty dangerous for the police to investigate home defense shootings. [trt-ny] [End the War on Freedom]

I rather doubt that either of Mr. St. Clair's possibilities is very likely. More likely those who want to defend themselves will move out of New York while the people who run the state continue their efforts to turn it into England (complete with massive crime wave).
