Atlas Shrugs in Venezuela. Ayn Rand's imagined strike is no longer fiction. For four years, Venezuela has been gradually sliding into an economic and political dictatorship under Marxist populist Hugo Chavez, an open admirer of Fidel Castro and Saddam Hussein. In response, the nation's largest federation of businessmen has led the nation for more than 40 days in a massive work stoppage. Venezuela's most productive citizens have gone on strike to protest their imminent liquidation under Chavez's communist revolution. [Jewish World Review]
Another article comparing the situation in Venezuela to Atlas Shrugged. This is the second such article I've seen, after the one pointed out by Miguel Octavio.

Venezuela's Chavez Threatens More Raids [AP World News]
President Hugo Chavez on Sunday threatened to order more raids on striking private food producers and warned the government may abandon negotiations with opponents trying to force him from office.
Can't say I'm surprised. There's still no mention of the protests against Chavez here in the US. No doubt it's because they're protesting against a communist. Certainly the media is willing to report on international protests by communists.

Sharon: Europe Too Biased Against Israel [AP World News]
"To the European side I said, 'Your attitude towards Israel and the Arabs and the Palestinians should be balanced," Sharon said. "When it will be balanced you are mostly welcome to participate. But at this moment the relations are unbalanced...They (the Europeans) don't understand that in order to move things forward (Yasser) Arafat should be removed from any influential position."
No kidding!

Every time I post a comment on a weblog I have to remember to go back and see if anyone followed up. We have to figure a way to automate this. Agree or disagree? [Scripting News]
I agree. Some way to subscribe to notifications when someone posts a follow-up comment would be really great.

No Iraqi war, thousands say in Mall protest. Denise Barnes and H.J. Brier at The Washington Times -
No Iraqi war, thousands say in Mall protest - one co-organizer
says they had 200,000 in DC yesterday. There were two
arrests. [grabbe]
Tens of thousands of protesters endured subfreezing temperatures
yesterday to demonstrate on the National Mall against the United
States' impending war with Iraq.
...
Many chanted anti-war slogans and hoisted signs that read "No Blood
for Oil" and "George Warmonger Bush" during the daylong demonstration
organized by International ANSWER (Act Now to Stop War and End
Racism). After the rally on the Mall, the demonstrators marched to the
Navy Yard in Southeast.
[End the War on Freedom]
Interesting how these protestors are all hurling personal insults at Bush and leftist nonsense like "it's all about oil." I remember seeing protests against Clinton's war on Serbia, which didn't get much media coverage. The protestors then were basically just saying, "please don't kill our relatives." There were no personal attacks on Clinton or blatant propaganda. The socialists protesting now were nowhere to be found.

The Sobran Administration. Which brings me to my campaign promise: as president, I will veto any act of Congress I deem unconstitutional; I will impound any funds Congress appropriates for unconstitutional purposes; and I will refuse to enforce any Federal law on the books if it isn't authorized by the Constitution. I will ask Congress to repeal most existing Federal laws and spending programs. [Sobran's]
Joseph Sobran asks for write-in votes in the next Presidential election.
