Experts disagree on use of guns by store workers. National convenience store chains have studies and consultants to back up their policies against resisting armed robbers.

J.C. Adams has a shotgun.

Last week, Adams, owner of the Pac A Sac store at 2615 Lawrenceville Highway, shot and killed a would-be robber and wounded an accomplice. The 74-year-old, who uses a walker, also killed a man who tried to rob the store in May 2000.

Adams' fighting reaction to crime drew immediate community support. Whether other crime victims could benefit from his example is a question debated by those who've studied crime statistics. [FirearmNews.com]

The "studies and consultants" described are a sociology professor in California and a bunch of propaganda from gun control groups. Hardly a scientific study. There's no mention of the real reason convenience store chains don't allow their clerks to be armed--a murdered clerk costs nothing to replace, whereas a dead robber's family will sue the chain. It has nothing to do with worker safety and everything to do with lawsuit avoidance.

I found a forum thread discussing the Kel-Tec SU-16 rifle. There's a better picture, and a pointer to an information page on the Kel-Tec web site. The magazine storage space in the stock can hold a 30-round magazine!

Brian Buck: "There are several hundred people protesting at the UN right outside my window." [Scripting News]

Specifically, they're protesting against Hugo Chavez. I'm not going to hold my breath waiting for media coverage, though.

Steven Schmitt pointed this article out:

Academic, Gun Control Advocate Disagree Over British Laws. "Where there is a proliferation of weaponry, there is more gun crime and abuse of weapons," she said. "The suggestion that we would be safer with more guns is just plain nonsense."

Marshall Andrews said that although gun crime in Britain has risen in recent years, the number of gun-related homicides is much lower than in the United States. [Cybercast News Service]

These are the same arguements we've seen from American victim disarmament advocates when a state considers reforming its concealed-weapon laws. It's happened about two dozen times in the last 15 years, and every time the "gun control" advocates have been proven wrong.

Besides the obvious dishonesty, the bit about "gun crime" is rather disturbing. I've never been able to understand why the victim disarmament crowd thinks it's perfectly okay to murder people as long as you don't use a gun.
