MS to Offer Antivirus Software. Microsoft will acquire antivirus technology from a Romanian software company and use it to develop its own virus-fighting product. Until now, the company has left that security to others. [Wired News] This is rather bad news for Symantec, which is best known for antivirus software. Fortunately we do make various other utilities software (such as Norton Utilities), so there's something to fall back on. The real danger, I think, is that Symantec executives will suffer from denial and try to compete with Microsoft's antivirus technology instead of gracefully exiting that market and focusing on other types of utility and security software. 9:52:19 AM    comment () UK 'unsafe, dirty and anti-family'. The UK is dirty, violent and an unsafe place to bring up children, according to a survey of young families. [BBC News | Front Page | UK Edition] In theory those young families could do something about it, by voting against the socialist politicians and policies that created the problem. Somehow I doubt that will happen, though. More likely the young families are themselves socialists, who will blame it all on the evil rich people (if there are any left in the UK) and vote for policies which make things even worse. 9:47:49 AM    comment () Israel defends pre-emptive strike. Israel is defiant over its right to kill people it considers a threat, after the US president rebukes the country over two deadly missile strikes. [BBC News | Front Page | UK Edition] Bush has no business complaining that the Israelis tried to kill someone who threatens them, and got two possibly innocent people instead (the article doesn't say), when he has killed thousands of innocent people trying to kill someone who was no threat at all to the US. 8:36:30 AM    comment ()
