Electronic Adolescent. I have developed a theory about contemporary American politics, which is, in essence, that people don't pay much attention to the facts. They decide they either like or don't like some politician and that's the end of it. Don't try to confuse them with the facts.
I'm quite certain that if it were proven beyond a doubt that President Bush lied about Iraq's weapons of mass destruction, it wouldn't affect his popularity any more than Monica Lewinsky affected Bill Clinton's. American politics today is all perception and emotion. Maybe, and I emphasize maybe, 5 percent of the people would change a political opinion based on the facts. The rest are attached to their favorites like movie fans. They just stare at them with goo-goo eyes and squeal on cue. [Charley Reese]

Shooting Syrians. Waging war on Iraq means shooting a few inconvenient Syrian border guards, too. I'm sure this does wonders for America's reputation in the Middle East, not that it will come as a surprise.... [LewRockwell.com Blog]
There was an article about this in today's Los Angeles Times as well. It's a little disturbing that neither article seems to have realized that the Feds have committed an unprovoked act of war against Syria.

Soldier Says Iraqi Children Turned Away [AP World News]
On a scorching afternoon, while on duty at an Army airfield, Sgt. David J. Borell was approached by an Iraqi who pleaded for help for his three children, burned when they set fire to a bag containing explosive powder left over from war in Iraq.
Borell immediately called for assistance. But the two Army doctors who arrived about an hour later refused to help the children because their injuries were not life-threatening and had not been inflicted by U.S. troops.
Now the two girls and a boy are covered with scabs and the boy cannot use his right leg. And Borell is shattered.

British troops killed in Iraq. Six British military personnel die and eight are wounded in separate incidents in southern Iraq, the UK prime minister's office says. [BBC News | Front Page | UK Edition]
"In responding to the incident, an RAF Chinook helicopter carrying a Quick Reaction Force came under fire as it landed," the statement said.
"Seven personnel on board the helicopter were wounded, three of them seriously.
Helicopters are vulnerable to ground fire, and especially so when taking off and landing. The US learned this in Vietnam, and the Russians in Afghanistan.
