Microsoft: Internet Explorer 5.2.3. Internet Explorer 5.2.3 for Mac OS X offers security and performance enhancements, as well as improved browser compatibility for enterprise users who work on a network with secure authentication or with proxy servers. A new version is due in a month also for Mac OS 9, but Microsoft is abandoning IE development. [MacInTouch]

I look forward to seeing if the final Mac OS version provides any real improvement. I switched from IE to Mozilla, but if they improve IE significantly I'd be perfectly willing to switch back.

Don't Confuse Us with Facts.

Before the war in Iraq, polls showed that half the public (mistakenly) believed that there were Iraqis on the 9/11 flights. Courtesy of Atrios, we learn that a third now believe WMD stockpiles have been found in Iraq. If those weapons did exist, someone may have found them, but it hasn't been coalition troops so far. At this rate, Bush will win reelection on the strength of our booming economy. (Shh!)

It probably doesn't help that the media is eager to report every new "discovery" (they're good for ratings), but pays little or no attention when it turns out a few days later that the discovery is actually something innocuous.

The Republican Welfare State. Bush will soon be signing a $400 billion edict to give more free drugs to Medicare recipients (via the pharmaceutical industry), the biggest such welfare increase in 40 years.
