Cindy Rodriquez touches on the Senate race now that Ben Nighthorse Campbell is out along with the effects of TABOR, in her column in today's Denver Post [March 8, 2004, "Senate race may expose TABOR mess"]. From the column, "Democrats will have to agree to cuts to K-12 funding mandated by Amendment 23; Republicans will have to take back the tax cuts that TABOR promised to give...It will affect everything from roads and highway maintenance, to government programs and services and the criminal justice system. In other words, bigger potholes, fewer hours at the local Department of Motor Vehicles office, and fewer criminals getting caught. If the ratcheting-down effect of TABOR continues to drain the amount of money left in the state coffers each year, it could ultimately lead to such drastic measures as letting inmates go free. Coloradans can take their pick: Get a small refund back from state government and watch our state crumble or forfeit the money and fix the tax and revenue collection system so that we have enough in our budget to pay for basic services we can't live without."

Update: E-mail from the Rocky Mountain News this afternoon states that Govenor Bill Owens has dropped out of the race for the U.S. Senate from Colorado.

Update: Meanwhile, Colorado Luis is saying, Run Ken Run!, encouraging Attorney General Ken Salazar to jump into the Senate race.
