Colorado Water Problems
Pueblo Chieftain: "How do we get more people involved in discussing Colorado's serious water resource problems? The answer is elusive. Except for rural folks who know the value of water, most of us don't sense there's a problem as long as we get clean water out of the tap and don't have to restrict lawn watering in the summer."

San Luis Valley Dweller: "Gregory Hobbs, Colorado Supreme Court Justice, and Hal Simpson, State Engineer, will be the keynote speakers at a groundwater symposium Monday, June 6, at Adams State College Carson Auditorium in Alamosa. The event, titled "Groundwater Use: Past, Present, and Future," is sponsored by the San Luis Valley Association of Conservation Districts."

New U.S. Attorney?
From today's Denver Post: "The waiting game is just about over for three prominent Colorado lawyers wanting to be the state's next U.S. attorney. 'We're getting very close' to a decision, says U.S. Sen. Wayne Allard's spokesman, Sean Conway."

"Dispelling rumors that the White House was underwhelmed by the choices, Conway believes the administration soon will select either Troy Eid, former legal counsel for Gov. Bill Owens; Jim Peters, district attorney for the 18th Judicial District; or Stu VanMeveren, district attorney for the 8th Judicial District."

"All three have undergone an extensive interview process in hopes of replacing John Suthers, who was named Colorado Attorney General after Salazar was elected to the Senate."

Water Thieves?
Ed Quillen writes about in stream water rights in his column in today's Denver Post [May 31, 2005, "Water: No honor among thieves"]. From the opinion piece, "This could get a lot more confusing before anything is settled, and I'm starting to miss those simple days on the Western Slope, where it was easy to spot the bad guys - they drove around in Denver Water Board pickups, sometimes even in broad daylight."

McCain for President?
The Moderate Voice: "So what's going on with Senator John McCain? Chris Nolan writes about McCain...and says we should be keeping an eye on the McCain/Arlen Specter combo that could mean the GOP's conservative wing won't have a clear path from hereon in."

Political Wire: "A Washington Post piece based on reporting from the new book, The Survivor by John Harris, notes 'the recent record makes it clear that Hillary Clinton has staked her future on precisely the same brand of centrist political strategy that her husband fashioned a decade ago -- using many of the same advisers and relying on familiar tactics.'"
