Optical distortion in the Nikkor DX 12-24mm f/4 lens:
At 12mm there is noticeable barrel distortion, which all but disappears by 15mm. Using the Photoshop's Spherize tool, I estimate the distortion to be 6% at 12mm and <1% at 15mm through 20mm. At 24mm there is a slight (<1%) pincushion effect. This will be good to know: if there are straight lines that do not cross the middle of the picture, don't use 12mm.
