Mars, Thursday at midnight.
The large bright area in the north hemisphere (bottom in this photo) is the Amazonis Planitia, the largest feature on the planet. The darker southern hemisphere is centered on Terra Sirenum.
A 116mm projection from 12mm Plossl on the Mak-7 for 370X. This is about a quarter second exposure, which was timed by quickly moving a black card in front of the telescope while the camera is on bulb exposure. In this way the telescope has about 15 seconds to quit vibrating after the shutter opens. The exposure is controlled with the ccd sensitivity control - this exposure was made at ISO 400.
