There is some noise going around in the Net about Micro$oft Office v.X update. It seems that it disables pirated copies by asking to reenter a serial number (CD Key) if you are using one of the pirated one. I didn't noticed since I have a bought copy and my serial number has not been pirated (yet). I've to wonder if the effort is worth it, I haven't performed the search but I'm sure new numbers or a way to defeat the check-up can already be found on Google. How much time did the M$ Mac Business Unit spend writing the software and fishing the numbers from the net? Did they really convinced anyone with a pirate copy to buy a new one? I seriously doubt it. It would be more productive to reduce the price of Office or make especial offers. I upgraded my Office 98 for 140$, which is a good price I think...

Whoa. Real Networks is about to die. I just upgraded my computer, and therefore I want to install a new Real player. So I go to the corporate site. All I can find is a small link to the premium Real One that requires a credit card to use (although it says free). Finito. Update, here is the link to the free player (make sure you click on the text link and not the icon). [John Robb's Radio Weblog]
Real is one of the worst companies in the tech world... I don't understand how they get away with so much crummy software and abusive tactics. If you stream content using Real, I've a question: Why? Both Apple and Micro$oft
have better cheaper options...

Americans Stun Favored Portugese Team. After racing to a three goal lead against Portugal today, the United States held on for a shocking 3-2 win. By The Associated Press. [New York Times: NYT HomePage]
Great game by the US! I was expecting a lot from the US team, but not this much. This puts Korea in trouble as Portugal classificatio passes through a Korean defeat. Germany tied with Eire in the last minute. That put Camerun in trouble for the same reason.
