A self proclaimed FIFA insider chimes in: Japan would not like to see Korea in the final of the World Cup, which will be played in Japan. The FIFA would prefer to avoid political embroils, so don't be surprised if a cruel penalty is called in the last minute of the game with Spain. Of course, with a fair referee, Spain's second team could easily beat Korea... I just got this info, I pass it on. Just so you know.

By the way, Moreno was not chosen to continue in the World Cup. It is unknown if the reason is criticism of his acts, or simply that he is too controversial, but we won't see him again, probably ever. Too late for Italy, but very good news for football. He thinks he will go to Germany in 2006, I bet he won't...

Ironic. Ecuador qualified Italy to the second round by beating Croatia... Then a referee from Ecuador takes Italy out of the tournament... [Thanks Luis]

In Venezuela, most people only watch football once every four years, hence, the real fan can feel kind of lonely. It is refreshing to read the opinion of the man I think could lead l'Azzurri to its real position in world football, Serse Corsi. Trainer of Perugia, the team that had the only Korean player in Italy. I say "had" as a prediction, that guy has never play a Serie A game and will not play in Italy anymore...

Some venezuelans are so stupid and ignorant that to express their support for England in the Dirty World Cup, they are waiving the Union Jack, the flag of the United Kingdom...He.
It reminds me of a phrase by Will Rogers: "If stupidity got us into this mess, then why can't it get us out?"...

Korea and Brazil are being insulted and denigrated all over the world for the corrupt behavior of FIFA in their favor. As a nation, they have to ask: Is it worth it? FIFA is doing it for money, but the nations fail to get the honor they want. Korea will not gain respect after this performance in the world of football. The players are nobodies and everybody knows they will do nothing in the next World Cup. With Brazil is even worse, because most people do not think they need any favors, unlike Korea, they are quite capable of winning on their own. But FIFA is so afraid of losing money, that they do not want to risk it. The nations suffer...
The irony in all this is that FIFA is bankrupt. Blatter is either a thief or the World Most Incompetent Administrator... Not even Enron would hire him.

Some Progress for Turkish Women. In recent years, Turkey has passed some important laws aimed at protecting the rights of women and girls, but the very need for these laws illustrates how far Turkey still has to go. [New York Times: Opinion]

Turkey is a great example of a modern muslim nation. Living basically in peace and striving to do what's fair. Yes, they are not perfect, but who is?

Hotmail POP mail users will have to pay [MacCentral]

This is the beginning of the end for Hotmail... There are other free services and the believe that you want to preserve your email address is crap. People want to change email addresses, is the best way to avoid spam...

Today Dictionary.com Word of the Day is turpitude. As in "FIFA turpitude" or "Moreno's turpitude" or "Blatter's turpitude", I guess someone in Dictionary.com was watching yesterday's game...

More Italy vs Moreno

Corriere della Sera makes no bones about it, dubbing the four-yearly festival of football hosted by Japan and South Korea "the dirty World Cup".

"Italy has been thrown out of the dirty World Cup, where referees and linesmen have been used like mercenaries," it wails.

"Never in the history of the World Cup have so many injustices been committed against one team."

"The part played by Mr Moreno, who has the appearance of a depressed cow, is doubly odious," said the paper.

The headline in the Rome daily Il Messaggero blasts the referees who have officiated at Italy's matches in the tournament.

"They aren't referees, but the thieves of dreams."

"Robbers" screams the banner headline of Italy's main sports daily Corriere dello Sport. Its main rival, La Gazzetta dello Sport, settles for "Shame".

The portly Moreno gets a bashing for his weight in all the papers. La Repubblica called him "a fat little toy with bulging eyes".

It also quotes Serse Cosmi, manager of unfashionable Perugia where the golden-goal scorer Ahn Jung-Hwan plays for the reserves, as saying: "He's the only referee with cellulite on his face."
