The situation in Caracas is very tense... One of the organizers of the march today has been kidnap it seems. Ten armed man in the main freeway of Caracas intercept him and had taken him. Nobody knows where. Lots of rumor that something will happen tonight. I'll be awake, watching the game. Trying to stay calm...

This same Byron Moreno is well remembered by my argentinian friends, He is known as "Señor tarjeta amarilla (Mr. Yellow card)" and once in Copa America threw out not one, not two, but three argentinian players. Those are the strong performances that FIFA was looking for...

That creep Byron Moreno is 33 years old and still in law school, probably lives with his Mother too...

A very good article analyzing who should switch to Mac OS X and who shouldn't in the Wall Street Journal. Not the normal place to get balanced views, but very good article. A recommended read to anyone who is thinking of a Mac. Walter Mossberg promises to follow up with an article detailing the problems of switching...

Glenn Reynolds says he suffers from "version fatigue", meaning he doesn't want to learn new features of programs convinced, as he is, he will upgrade before needing them. Eric Raymond says that Unix is the answer, but I think he is missing the point.
The point is that Windows is not really complicated, it is boring. You don't want to learn about new features, because you know it is not going to be an "aha" moment, just a series of rules you have to follow like a procedure without understanding. To use Unix you have two choices: the hard one, install Linux and really learn; and the art one, use Mac OS X, you will get a working system with everything you need, it is beautiful, most new things you learn will turn into an "aha" moment, and as soon as you feel ready, if you ever are, you can delve in the depths of Unix and learn every single detail. This is the path to enjoyment.

Eric Raymond's explains that Islam really is a violent religion. This is what Pym Fortuyn meant when he said Islam is a "backward culture". How can you convince most of muslims to fight against their real enemies, the people in power that forces them to live in poverty, if your religious books say your enemies are others and you have to kill them even if it costs your life?

In Spain they worry about referees. See how clearly a country with football tradition saw the cheating of the previous referees. They wanted Colina for the game, because they recognize a good referee. They'll get the egyptian in whom I trust. But it is interesting how this is being ignored in football-less countries.

Amazing. According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, FIFA send Moreno home for his mistakes in the game Italy-Korea and send Poll home, the referee in Croatia-Italy, for accepting the linesmen mistakes in that game. Read it here. It doesn't do any good for Italy. FIFA is such an organizational mess, that Moreno found himself in the airport with the Italian team... The insults he received were grand...FIFA won't admit mistakes openly but acts against them late, what good does it do? This is the Dirty World Cup, and they can't do anything to solve it.
According to Tosatti in Il Corriere della Sera, Turkey pushed to have the Italian Colina, the best referee of the world, in their game against Japan, which they won. Why couldn't the Italian representatives pushed to have a better referee?
Looking at the list of referees for the quarter final it seems my anonymous source, which claims to be from inside FIFA, is correct. The game of Korea against Spain has an Egyptian referee that has been spotless so far, while the Brazil-England has a very weak mexican, whose past performances has been called into question. The Colombian, probably the second best referee after Colina, is in charge of Sengal-Turkey, another victory for fairness by the Turks. I am unfamiliar with the referee for the game of USA against Germany, but expect him to be proper. Look at the countries the referees are from. Would you put the Mexican in the game of Brazil? We shall see how these predictions pan out.
Few people know that FIFA's second man, claimed that Colina was the obvious choice for the final a whole month before the World Cup. How did he know Italy wouldn't be on the final?
