"What kind of peace do I mean? What kind of peace do we seek? Not a Pax Americana enforced on the world by American weapons of war. Not the peace of the grave or the security of the slave. I am talking about genuine peace, the kind of peace that makes life on earth worth living, the kind that enables men and nations to grow and to hope and to build a better life for their children - not merely peace for Americans but peace for all men and women - not merely peace in our time but peace for all time." -- JFK

The problem with calling the Bush mafia "fascists" is that Hitler killed millions of people. Right? It's not like Hitler was the only fascist who ever lived. You can bet Bushes have killed more people than Mussolini, for example.

How about "neo-fascists"? It's clearly distinct from Hitler. It's a little tamer than neo-Nazi.

The only problem is that the Bushes are old-fashioned fascists -- kind of a family tradition, what with Prescott's Auschwitz profits turning up in W.'s trust fund. Plus all the genuine Nazis brought into the CIA to cook the books on the Russian threat.

But we could call them neo-fascists, and make up some distinction. For example, Hitler's gang mostly only had Jews to kick around. Today's neo-fascists are glad to kill Arabs because the Arabs have the oil.

Beyond the race of the targets for mass-murder, fascist is pretty easy to document. The corruption. The conspiracy. The collusion between government and corporations. The incessant propaganda. The control of the media. The refusal to be accountable to the people. The war mongering. It's a little different that W. had to create poverty himself, but it wasn't hard.

"I think it means that the president has an opportunity here to enact and proceed with the plan (on Iraq) as he has articulated it," Daschle said on NBC. "I think the American people appear now to give him the benefit of the doubt."

I think the American people were snowed by the Republican Corporate Media, and by the Democrats pathetic showing -- with Daschle as the point man. Sorry. You lose. Mr. Daschle, if you care about the planet -- global warming, peace, prosperity, safety of children, health of seniors, etc., etc., etc. -- you have two choices: lead, or get out of the way. Thousands -- maybe tens of thousands -- of people will die because of your failure. Learn from it, or make way for someone who has.

That Gephardt steps down voluntarily is the right move. If he thinks it's a prelude to running for president, he should forget about it.

Basically, any Democrat who voted for the war should abandon any leadership role. The exception is if they put away their pink tutus and put on a ninja suit. But they gotta prove it. Saying "I'll fight for you" leaves us cold.

Pollster explains last-minute torpedoing of exit polls

Miami, FL (licentious)-- VNS abruptly aborted its exit polling when it realized "it would be the only evidence of voter fraud with the computerized voting machines," according to a pollster with a leading Republican-owned media conglomerate.

"Electronic voter fraud is completely untraceable. The only way you would notice is by the discrepency between the exit poll results and the vote tally for each precinct. Since we couldn't guarantee that the precinct exit poll numbers would be untraceable, we had to pull the plug on the whole operation."

According to the pollster, exit polls are a labor-intensive operation, so there was just too much chance that one of the hundreds of exit pollers would go public with their actual tallies, or that the actual tallies could even be subpoenaed. "CYA is rule number 1. If somebody noticed that exit poll results were off only in strong Democratic precincts, things might have gotten messy."

The potential for damage was discovered during a mid-day demonstration to senior executives. "When [name withheld] saw that the information system let you drill down to the precinct level, the shit hit the fan. He was so angry, we thought his head was going to explode."

The computerized voting machines in Florida, for instance, were purchased by the Republican-controlled state government, from a Republican-controlled corporation established solely to manufacture and program voting machine results. "They're really state-of-the-art," said one Republican voting coordinator. "If we had had these in 2000, we wouldn't have needed the Scalia-Five."

Note to Dianne Feinstein, Tom Daschle, and all of the Democrats' leaders: lead, follow, or get out of the way.

Feinstein is as safe as a Senator can get. If she won't fight like a mother grizzly bear, she should resign immediately to make room for someone who will.

Daschle's strategy against Bush was a complete failure. Either get it right *immediately* or give the job to someone who will.

Hint: Every piece of Bush legislation from now on needs 60 votes. Every judicial appointment needs 60 votes. A Democratic Senator who votes with Bush gets no money or support in the next primary, and you put somebody in who will fight. The most important thing is to overcome the Republican Corporate Media.

A note to Davis: You're the second-most-hated candidate for California Governor. As far as I can tell, you deserve a big chunk of that. Congratulations on doing what it takes not to lose, but maybe you had better figure out how to win. Don't count on every getting an opponent as pathetic as Simon again.

Our first breakthrough in the fight against the Bush regime's corruption!

Oh, sure, the midnight knifing was mostly because Pitt blindsided them -- but they didn't have to do it. They could have waited one day to see that they routed the Democrats in the Senate. Why not just stonewall, like usual? Let Paul and Molly use up their column inches on Pitt -- that just provides more cover for Bush and Cheney on Harken-gate, Halliburton-gate, Andersen-gate, Enron-gate, etc.

The case against Pitt is no more obvious and no less documented than the case against White, Bush, Cheney, Ashcroft, Norton, Rove -- any of them.

Will the Democrats make hay, or stick with their pink tutus?

The silly thing about tablet computers is that they require two-hands to read. You can't just place a tablet flat on a table in front of you, because the angle is wrong. The webpads all come with a little stand. My ipaq handheld is better for reading when it's propped up by its keyboard.

To read something on a tablet, you need to hold the tablet in one arm, and control scrolling with the other arm. If you're a "corridor warrior", which arm do you hold your coffee cup in?

Gong.
