"What kind of peace do I mean? What kind of peace do we seek? Not a Pax Americana enforced on the world by American weapons of war. Not the peace of the grave or the security of the slave. I am talking about genuine peace, the kind of peace that makes life on earth worth living, the kind that enables men and nations to grow and to hope and to build a better life for their children - not merely peace for Americans but peace for all men and women - not merely peace in our time but peace for all time." -- JFK

If the Democrats had any spine, they'd blow the lid on the treasonous fraud perpetrated by Bush-aligned military contractors. How many brave American soldiers die -- not from enemy fire -- but from defective equipment... defects that let the Bush-aligned Republican Corporate Criminals shave just a bit more profit from their military contracts.

For example: "Half of 20,000 gas masks tested at random during a 1999 study were found to have 'critical defects' that could render them useless in an attack." Or think about all the American helicopter crashes in Afghanistan. Once you get started on the list, it grows and grows.

Of course the military covers it all up, because senior officers approved the equipment purchases, and plan to get their payback after retirement in cushy jobs with the companies they cover up for.

We need a clean sweep of Democratic leadership.

Senator Patty Murray of Washington whose campaign leadership resulted in Republican control of the Senate said: "We gave the Republicans a strong fight, but in the end we could not compete with the bully pulpit and a popular wartime president."

In fact, the problem is the Democrats *didn't* compete. Even with Rove's playbook in hand, they didn't compete. The Senate Democrats covered up for Bush's incompetence by refusing to investigate September 11.

If you aren't going to fight, get out of the way.

Greenspan cuts interest rate

Washington, DC (licentious) -- In a pre-emptive strike to hide the effects of Republican control of the Senate, Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan immediately cut interest rates.

"Republican control of the Senate will obviously improve our -- their -- ability to destroy the economy," said Greenspan. "It would look unseemly if global markets immediately tanked, so we're stepping in to cloud the immediate situation and provide some PR cover."

Bush appoints Ken Lay to replace Pitt

Washington, DC (licentious) -- George W. Bush today appointed his top campaign contributor to head the SEC.

"Kenny Boy" Lay funneled millions of dollars to various Bush campaign funds, quasi-legal entities, off-shore accounts, and henchmen. "It's the least I could do," said Bush.

The reporter who asked if that might not be seen as controversial was immediately removed from the press conference.

Bush further explained that Lay is -- incidentally -- the best man for the job: "There's nobody who can out-scam Kenny-Boy. We need a man like that at the SEC, to make sure the Republican Party gets its cut of any stock fraud, money laundering, or any of the other good schemes that we worked so hard with Andersen to create. Companies like Adelphia who don't pay up have to know they're going down hard. Kenny-Boy is the right man for this job."

When asked who he would choose to head the new audit oversight board, Kenny-Boy said his former henchman at Enron, Andrew Fastow, is at the top of his list, but he intends to cast a wide net.
