"What kind of peace do I mean? What kind of peace do we seek? Not a Pax Americana enforced on the world by American weapons of war. Not the peace of the grave or the security of the slave. I am talking about genuine peace, the kind of peace that makes life on earth worth living, the kind that enables men and nations to grow and to hope and to build a better life for their children - not merely peace for Americans but peace for all men and women - not merely peace in our time but peace for all time." -- JFK

Kissinger as head of the September 11 investigation....

I wasn't aware of the direct conflict of interest: we all thought he was a *former* war criminal and terrorism mastermind. But maybe not. He could still be at it through his consulting company. And his clients, of course, overlap with the Bush family business partners. Hey! There you go.

I also liked the Kiss-of-death's quote that his panel is "under no restrictions, and we will accept no restrictions"... such as telling the truth, or not lying about the Bush junta's involvement in terrorism, money laundering, etc.

But to be "fair and balanced" for a moment.... Again, it's not a question of whether Kissinger *would* cover up for Bush, it's the *appearance* of impropriety that is intolerable. Keeping his client list secret doesn't mean there's no appearance of impropriety, it means the whole thing stinks worse.

Kissinger should resign immediately. And someone should slap him silly for having accepted the position. Democrats should demand his resignation.
