News - Here's an article about the Columbia disaster written by
Canadian science fiction author Spider Robinson:

Comment - I think Melissa has read some of his work. He notes in the article
that his wife, Jeannie, was part of the Civilians in Space program and was a
finalist to fly on the Challenger mission that blew up on launch.
News - Another article, critical of the Shuttle program, from Time magazine:
http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,1101030210-418518,00.html
Comment - A respected writer and critic of the Shuttle program makes good
case for scrubbing all the Shuttles and starting again from scratch with a
new system. Maybe a small, cheaper and more reliable space plane for human
flight, and throw-away rockets for lifting cargo.
News - Well, enough about the Shuttle program. On to the really important
stuff...college football! None of the state's top high school seniors sign
with MSU:

Comment - Michigan scooped up the best players (sigh). But I was surprised
how many players are going to Illinois. MSU, in the middle of finding a new
coach this fall, just wasn't in the running for the top recruits.
If it's any consolation, this is supposed to be a down-year for high school
recruits in the state. So let U of M have them all...they're no good anyway!
