News - Aack! Lunatics in North Korea may have a long
range missile that can drop a nuclear bomb on the western U.S.:
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A62869-2003Feb12.html
Comment - The CIA says it does not believe the missile has been flight
tested. That fills me with confidence...the CIA has been right about so much
other stuff!
Gee, it sure would be nice if we had a ballistic missile defense about now.
Oh, sorry, I guess that was something President Clinton and Michigan's U.S.
Sen. Carl Levin bitterly opposed and blocked at every turn for the past 12
years.
Meanwhile, Debbie Stabenow, our other Michigan Senator, is focusing on a far
more serious threat to Michigan citizens: Canadian garbage! She's sponsoring
a bill to ban imports of Canadian trash (
http://www.thetimesherald.com/news/stories/20030213/localnews/976502.html).
The article notes that we're getting their trash because we have "abundant
and cheap" landfills. That's the problem: we're not charging enough. I say
let's take all the trash they want to send us, but charge them a Canadian
arm-and-a-leg. In fact, let's tax their garbage and use the funds for
Michigan schools! Our motto could be "garbage in, garbage out".
Seriously, if we charge enough, it will be cheaper for them to find another
way to take care of their garbage. But typically, this free-market solution
eludes Sen. Stabenow, who instead wants to pass a law to solve the problem.
News - This writer makes a good case that bin Laden is dead:
http://rightwingnews.com/interviews/steyn.php
Comment - Mark Steyn says that audio tapes are easily faked. If bin Laden is
alive, then why no video? And, he notes that it's an advantage to the U.S.
government to pretend that bin Laden is alive and ready to attack us again.
News - Online game called Poulaga Challenge:
http://www.poulagachallenge.com/
Comment - This is a multi-player chicken throw Flash game. With all the
serious stuff going on in the world, why not try something silly like
chicken throwing?
