News -- Dan Rather interviews Hussein: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A64262-2003Feb25.html

Comment - From the article: "What the gambit also shows is the importance that Hussein places on the media. If war comes, look for him to put the spotlight on injured civilians and arrange for Western journalists to tour bombed sites that he will claim were baby-milk factories -- the better to portray the United States as a heartless aggressor. The Pentagon is determined to respond in kind, which is one reason Rummy & Co. are allowing 500 reporters to travel with the troops."

Newspaper reporters went back and forth between Union and Confederate lines during the Civil War. The articles they wrote were very important in maintaining (or hurting) support for the war, on both sides.

News -- Anti-Bush cartoon is sick, but funny: http://www.villagevoice.com/issues/0309/sutton.php

Comment - It's called "Bushsopranos", and it's a parody that makes the President out to be just like Tony Soprano. His wife, "Carmelaura", goes to confession, and the priest asks her "is your husband involved with organized crime?", and she replies, "no, it's worse...the Republican Party!" Yuck yuck.

I can't help but get the feeling that if Al Gore were President right now and doing exactly the same things that Bush is doing, that Republicans would be tearing him down just as hard as Democrats are tearing down Bush.

Every once in a while I read about Clinton getting slammed for "cutting and running" from Somalia after the 18 U.S. soldiers were killed. But the book "Black Hawk Down" points out that it was Congressional Republicans who were clamoring for the U.S. to get out of Somalia.
