On clear days, we get the most amazing sunrises and sunsets. The neat thing is that because we're so far North, sunrises and sunsets last forever. It starts getting dusky light almost two hours before actual sunrise. And the glow following sunset remains for at least an hour. Not at all like the Southern US or Hawaii, where, when the sun sets - whammo - it's dark - as if someone threw a light switch.
The sunset view from my office.

Mt. Redoubt - a very active volcano which last erupted in 1990.
The 1990 eruption stranded Mom and me in Seattle for four days - we were flying home from Lake Tahoe where I'd had knee surgery two days earlier. We were in the air, when all flights to and from Alaska were cancelled and we landed in Seattle.
Fortunately, the Four Seasons Olympic (one of the great old hotels of the West) gave us their "Stranded in Seattle" rate, so I spent my post op time ensconced in luxury.
