Great little bit in the January Atlantic Monthly on News Sources and Weapons of Mass Destruction in Iraq. The Atlantic was excerpting from the study, Misperceptions, the Media and the Iraq War.
Evidently, after the invasion of Iraq, 60 percent of Americans believed that "Saddam Hussein was actively supporting Al Queda and was in the process of deplying WMD's". As we all now know, both of those assertions have been proven to be false. What was interesting was where that 60 percent got their news from:
Whereas only 23 percent of those who relied on NPR or PBS for information about public affairs believed one or more of the propositions [Hussein actively supported Al Queda and WMD's], 55 percent of those who relied on CNN did—and 80 percent of those who relied on Fox News did.
Pretty interesting indeed...And to think, the right wing complains about a vast media conspiracy...
