The Washington Post has a long running, sort of eclectic and difficult to describe, weekly contest where readers are invited to submit witty entries in response to various word games.
For example, recently the Style Invitational asked readers to take any word from the dictionary, alter it by adding, subtracting or changing one letter, and then supply a new definition. Here are some sample winners:
- "Sarchasm" is "the gulf between the author of sarcastic wit and
the person who doesn't get it."
- "Osteopornosis" is "a degenerate
disease."
- "Glibido" is "all talk and no action."
- "Igoranus" is "a person who's both stupid and an asshole"
Here's a list with several more winning entries.
