Mom has a post today regarding a family death - Lowell's (my stepfather) dad, Bernie, passed away this weekend. Bernie was a hale and robust 99 years old - he died suddenly of an aneurysm. Lowell flew back to Pennsylvania today. The funeral is on Saturday.
Poor Lowell. Dealing with the death of parent is a very difficult thing.

Man, yesterday was one of the worst weather days ever. Strong Chinook winds - gusts up to 90 mph and pouring rain. Of course, we've lost 2/3's of our snow, the grass is green in several locations, and the streets are a total ice rink. I really hate El Nino years.
So, yesterday's cruddy weather resulted in a big time roof leak here at the Partnow Manse. Fortunately, Kevin, our able-bodied handyman was able to make a nighttime housecall and get the leakage situation under control. We should be able to hold out until summer when a new roof will be on the honey-do list.
Our cable modem service went out again yesterday morning. So, we're back on pokey pokey pokey dial-up. We will be visited tomorrow by a senior technician, who will hopefully fix the problem once and for all.
And today, I had my first-ever experience with a food allergy reaction. Evidently there is something in a red Thai fish sauce that the greatly offends the ol' Slat Rat immune system. My co-workers made Thai fresh rolls for lunch - which they've done many times before. I grabbed a couple of fresh rolls and added on some of the sauce and headed off to my office for a conference call. About five minutes into the call, my hands started to burn. I didn't think anything about it until my lips started burning and swelling, my arms, legs, etc., also started to burn and my eyes got very itchy and a tad swollen. Fortunately, I didn't go into a major reaction - things just got got quite a bit more burny, my hands turned bright red and swelled a bit, and the trots made an appearance. But no swelling of the windpipe etc. I just sat through the call getting somewhat more uncomfortable but still able to function o.k. 6 hours later I still burn and itch a tad. Amazing stuff.
I'm gonna have to find out what was in that sauce. It is definitely something I'll have to stay away from here on out.

A little mini fad is blossoming out there in Internet Land - ipodmyphoto. Basically, what one does is send in a picture of a person, animal, thing, whatever to the ipodmyphoto folks and they ipod-i-fy the picture. They turn the shot into a very cool picture that bears a great deal of resemblance to the current ipod advertising style.
I, who am totally unable to resist anything so new, hip, and terminally geeky, sent in four photos to be ipodified as Christmas gifts. They turned out fabulously well.
Over the next four days, I'll post the pictures so you too can see how neat they are!!!
First up is Mom and the Stock Market Bull. This picture was taken this summer outside of New York Stock Exchange.
