Tonight is the 13th annual Government Hill New Year's Eve Progressive Dinner party. As you can see by the pictures, last year's dinner was a total hoot. This year's should be just as fun. The appetizer course starts at our house and then we'll all journey over to the Hill for the remainder of evening. Fine wine, gourmet food, the city's fireworks display, and best of all, great friends. It's a perfect way to bring in the new year.

There is a great article - Herd on the Street on Anchorage's moose population in last month's Smithsonian Magazine. The magazine version of the article contained many of my all time favorite moose pictures. However, the pdf version that's posted on the Smithsonian site is sans pictures.
But, even without the moose mug shots, the article is still lots of fun and well worth the read. In addition to being entertaining, the article does an excellent job of covering many of the various Alaska moose controversies - and we have a bunch of them. Everything from aerial wolf hunting (wolves are big moose predators) to Anchorage residents carrying guns along local trails to protect themselves from "marauding "moose. Needless to say, I think the aerial wolf hunting policy is bad science and not all sporting. And folks who carry pistols on the Coastal Trail are not doing any of us a favor.
