Ta Da!!!! I've just finished all my Christmas present wrapping - well almost all of it. There's one Ski Boy present that still needs to be bundled up. It's at work - hopefully I'll remember to bring it home tomorrow.

I wonder how the Ski Boy is doing with his wrapping....

Alix is home on Christmas break from Vet School - and she has a new best buddy with her - Gunner, the English Pointer.

Gunner is a total sweetie. Alix adopted him this Fall from the Vet School's canine blood donor program. So, of course Gunner worships Alix (who doesn't?). Gunner and Alix arrived from Illinois very late Monday night. As a result, Clem, who once she falls asleep is oblivious to everything, didn't meet Gunner until Tuesday morning. Both Clem and Gunner were very polite to each other - no growling or barking. Just some get acquainted doggie sniffing and since then they've basically ignored each other. Alix has emphasized to Gunner that Clem is Senior Pet and therefore entitled to extra privileges. He's o.k. with that. Although he does grumble when any of us get too close to Alix. He is a smidge possesive. But, Alix has told Gunner to deal with it.

There will be lots of Gunner and Clem pictures posted over the next several days. As soon as I get Photoshop loaded on to my as-yet-unnamed-desktop.

This post was intended for yesterday. However, I was just one totally whipped pup last night. I was in bed at 8:00 PM - well on my way to being comatose.

Anyhoo, we Alaskans take both the Summer and Winter Solstices pretty seriously. In the summer, we party like there's no tomorrow - outdoor fairs and music festivals, golf, softball, hiking, etc. all lasting well in Midnight - when it's still light

The Winter Solstice is very different. After all it's the shortest day of the year. Yesterday we had a whopping 5 hours and 27 minutes of daylight. The sun rose at 10:15 AM and set at 3:44 PM. Whee!

But I really like the Winter Solstice - the snow on the ground and the Christmas lights just make it all warm and cozy.

So early yesterday evening (long past sunset), I indulged in one of my favorite Solstice traditions - listening to Paul Winter's Annual Winter Solstice Celebration at the New York Cathedral of St. John the Divine. I had to work late last night, so I plugged in the concert's web cast and very happily listened to the wonderful sound of Paul Winter's soprano sax in that marvelous cathedral.
