Because of our somewhat anemic snow levels, the neighborhood moose population has remained in their summer haunts through most of November and December. However, we've just had our first official winter ungulate visitors. As I was sitting here in my office, blogging, I heard twigs snapping outside my window.
Note: Even though, as I type, it's a mere 14 degrees F, my office gets very warm, so the window is always cracked at least at little bit. Even when the temperature is way below zero.
Anyhoo, back to the snapping twigs. I got up and looked out the window. There was very large cow and a very healthy calf right outside the window munching away on the Partnow Estate trees.
So, from now on, Clem doesn't get to go outside by herself for doggly duties. She'll be on a leash for the rest of the winter. Those moosels can hide in trees and you never know they're there until it's too late. And this particular Mama Moose seemed to be a tad on the hyper alert side. Never a good combination with a poochie. Especially an elderly pooch like Clem.
