This afternoon when I arrived in Seattle, I checked my email and was greeted by terrible news - Stuart Hall had died suddenly. He was 70 years old and still had a ton of living to do. He was active right up until the very end

I've known Stuart for fifteen years - a long time by most standards. But in Stuart's world that was barely a blink of an eye. Stuart was a member of a dying breed - "Community Pillar". He cared so much and was so active - on every imaginable level.

As all of us who knew Stuart, and as Stuart himself would say, he was his own worst enemy. I don't think I've ever met anyone would could touch him on the righteous indignation front. He could create more damage in three sentences than just about anyone I've ever known. But the righteous indignation was just a surface thing. Stuart was also one of the best men I've ever known. He was smart - very smart - when he wasn't shooting off his own foot. He loved and cared so deeply about so much.

I will miss him so much. I consider him a mentor. He taught me how to really care.
