This afternoon, the Tigester and I found our first geocache together. Tige is now an official Geo-Pooch!!!!!

Today was cold cold cold: 5 below zero. So, both Tige and I were bundled up and did our best to keep moving. Geocaching in winter is way more difficult than at any other time of the year. The combination of the cold and deep snow make for some tough hunting. Very few of the woodsy caches are winter friendly - they get buried under all the snow and don't resurface until spring. But I carefully perused the list of caches and noted that Far North Bear-L had been found on Thanksgiving Day - in the middle of our blizzard. So, I figured it was doable.

Tige and I had a very good time - we parked at the Abbott Loop Road trailhead and started down the main trail. Although, we hadn't made it very far at all when we had to jump out of the way - a very good skier was just heading out with his two dogs in harness. I wished it hadn't been so blasted cold or I would have whipped out my camera to take a picture - the guy's two skijoring dogs were Jack Russell Terriers. I laughed. The guy said that skijoring helped burn off some of that Jack Russell energy. And those little guys were pulling. Tige of course, went nuts. I can't tell whether he was mad because the dogs were zooming away and he wanted to race. Or if he thought the dogs were just the right size for lunch. We're still trying to figure out what might have happened during Tige's street dog/homeless days. I am not about to allow him around little dogs until we've done a bunch of obedience training and he's had time around little dogs in a highly controlled environment.

Anyhoo, the cache was in the deep deep snowy woods about 1/8 mile off the main trail. Tige had a blast leading the way to the cache along the game trails. He's a real pro.

We found the cache very quickly. And then I entered the pain zone - I had to take my mittens off to log our visit and attempt to take some pictures. But it was so cold that my fingers were very very unhappy. So, I didn't do much logging and the pictures I took were terrible - below is the least offensive picture and it's still pretty bad. But, I had to capture Tige's first cache!!!!

All in all, today's caching adventure was a big success! Tige is hooked!

The worst picture ever taken of Tige and myself? I think the answer is "Yes".
