Mt. Augustine is one of three very active volcanoes that can be seen from Anchorage. For the past month, it's been rumblin' and bumblin' - and this afternoon there was a large visible steam plume.
The last major eruption that dusted Anchorage was Mt. Spurr in 1992. I can't begin to tell you how much fun you can have with volcanic ash - NOT. Although, the Volcano Observatory states that an eruption is not imminent.
It's stuff like Mt. Augustine that make living in Alaska an "out of the ordinary" experience!

This afternoon, I was sitting in my new office and glanced out the window. There were a ton of contrails. They were so darn striking that I had to go to Wikipedia to look up contrails. Contrails are akin to hoar frost!
Here's a shot. The sun was just starting to set - 3:30 PM!
