Dangers of the Google tool bar exposed. From annoyances to threats [The Register]

We are occasionally guilty of overly hyping security threats, but nothing like this. You gotta love these “warnings” about problems already fixed and about which one could do nothing, anyway.

If you’re using the Google Toolbar, as I am, you’re almost certainly already protected against this “threat.” To make sure, click on the “Google” button and select “About Google Toolbar.” If you running version 1.1.59 or later, you’re safe.

Bush's Forum on Economy Is to Feature G.O.P. Donors. The speakers at a White House economic forum next week will include major corporate donors to the Republican Party. By Elisabeth Bumiller. [New York Times: National]

Diverse, my ass. Is there nothing the Bushies won’t lie about?

Billed as a “diverse” gathering of business leaders for a summit on the economy, it turns out it’s really a gathering of Dim Son’s corporate masters, all of whom, by sheer coincidence, no doubt, happen to be big GOP contributors.

Sound familiar? This is exactly how the Smirking Chimp and Uncle Dick Cheney formulated energy policy, currently the subject of several federal investigations and lawsuits. Man, talk about hubris.

Gee, ya think we’ll see any solid reform proposals coming out of this group of thieves?

Tom Ridge Mess In PA Under City, State & Federal Investigation

From Salon, here’s a new Bush administration scandal the national media hasn’t picked up on yet. Turns out Tom Ridge, Shrub’s “Homeland Security” czar, formerly the GOP governor of PA, left behind a festering public schools scandal.

Reports in the Philadelphia Daily News  detail investigations that have been launched by city of Philadelphia, state and federal authorities into the mess left behind by Ridge.

Not only is this guy incompetent, looks like he may be a thief, too. Also under investigation is GOP big wig Charles Zogby, PA State Education Secretary. Look for more details to emerge on this scandal in the near future.

Gun in Lawmaker's Hands Claims One Victim: A Door. A gun that Representative Bob Barr was handling went off, perhaps denting his standing as a gun safety advocate. By Adam Clymer. [New York Times: National]

Given the idiocy and hypocrisy of ultra-right KKKrisitan stalwart Bob “The Boob” Barr, this is hardly surprising. Funny as hell, sure, but not surprising. We already knew Bob was a dolt.

But for those of you who didn’t, perhaps his statement that, “I don’t know what caused the gun to go off,” will provide the last bit of proof.

Bob, you stupid fuck, pulling the trigger is what made the gun go off. Sheesh, what a maroon.

Judge Suspends Proceedings in Standoff on War Prisoner. A federal judge in Virginia suspended all proceedings in a case in which the government has classified an Afghan prisoner as an "enemy combatant" with almost no legal protections. By Katharine Q. Seelye. [New York Times: Politics]

So, when is a citizen not a citizen? When Shrub says so, that’s when.

This has got to be the most flagrant example of the Executive Branch usurping powers granted by the Constitution only to the Judicial Branch in recent memory. Apparently the Smirking Chimp and his corporate toady cohorts have absolutely no respect whatsoever for the Constitution. Maybe if it was sponsored by Enron…

In Twin Speeches, Bush and Cheney Vow to Fight Fraud. In a rare public appearance, Vice President Dick Cheney defended the administration's stewardship of the faltering economy. By Evelyn Nieves with Elisabeth Bumiller. [New York Times: Politics]

Well, it’s about time our great leaders stepped up and took strong action against corporate fraud. Oh, wait. All they did was toss out a few words. Well, let’s look at the actions.

Yes, it’s very clear from the actions where the Dim Son and Dick “I’m Not A Thief” Cheney stand on corporate fraud. Recently the federal government handed out a lucrative contract to build new detention facilities at Guantanamo Bay in Cuba, where some 300 Al Qaeda detainees are being held.

Guess who got this highly profitable contract? Oh, come on, take a guess.

Halliburton. That’s right, the very same Halliburton Dick Cheney ran for years. The very same Halliburton under federal investigation for fraud. The very same Halliburton where Cheney’s role is being closely scrutinized by federal regulators for possible civil and criminal wrongdoing, including questionable accounting practices..

THAT’S where Bush/Cheny *really* stand on corporate fraud.
