The celebrated Samuel Beckett, celebrated
Whenever the question of favorite author or book for a desert island comes up, I draw a blank. Then later on I'll remember how much I like the work of Samuel Beckett. I think I could read Watt over and over and over again; even better if accompanied by a Philip Glass symphony. Apparently Beckett did't care for his work as much as the rest of us, as the New York Times reports in "Celebrating Beckett, Against His Will."
And not that it matters to anyone, but one of my favorite actors is Bert Lahr. Most folks will remember him as the Cowardly Lion, but I think of him as Estragon in the first U.S. production of Waiting for Godot. So there.
