Tell my wife:

What we become depends on what we read after all of the professors have finished with us. The greatest university of all is a collection of books.
Thomas Carlyle (1795 - 1881) [Quotes of the Day]

My books are important to me. Just knowing they are there is a comfort--I know that I can find references for many useful things. I can always find something to read, if not today, then tomorrow. I can educate myself any time, day or night, weekends, holidays, vacations. If the power goes out (which it's threatening to any moment now. . .), I'll read by a window until it gets dark, then by flashlight or candle. You can call me possessive, call me materialistic, call me a packrat, but I won't give up my books!
