My Dave Winer Connection
Once I wrote a profile of Dave for Wired magazine, where I may still be a contributing editor. Dave didn't like it much, I think because it was too much about him personally and not enough about the writing revolution he wants to unleash via the Web, but I thought it was OK on both counts. Sometimes he gets mad at me, but that's part of being friends with Dave.
I also write for a magazine called Baseline, which is published by Ziff Davis and covers business and technology at big companies.

One of the places I get paid to write is the op-ed page of the News & Record, a daily newspaper here in my hometown of Greensboro, North Carolina. This week I wrote about a FedEx hub that is planned for our local airport. It may not be the best idea to build it there, but it looks like it's going to happen.

So I'm taking Dave Winer up on his challenge and starting my own blog. It was not a challenge to me, it was a challenge to the world, but as a long time resident I felt implicated.
I'm a little nervous.
Not about writing, which I do for a living, but about writing without filters and ending up with a bunch of banal crap on my screen. Uh-oh it's happening already.
