Howard Dean Gaining Support in the Southwest
I just returned from the Howard Dean Meet-up in Chandler, Arizona.

There is a notable buzz and enthusiasm in the air. The Arizona primary elections are still months away, but people are gathering and making plans for a new president. Howard Dean was in Santa Fe tonight and will be visiting Phoenix on Friday.

Presidential Candidates Debate in New Mexico
Plan Now for Tomorrow's New Mexico Debate.

Tomorrow night Governor Dean will be debating his Democratic rivals in Albuquerque, New Mexico, in the first of six debates sponsored by the Democratic National Committee -- and Dean supporters will be holding a People-Powered Debate Rally outside beforehand to show their support.

Sign up now for the rally in Albuquerque (complete with debate-watching party afterwards). Supporters are already forming carpools to get to the rally -- use the search function to find a ride if you need one or help someone else get there by starting your own.

If you can't be there, do the next best thing: use our Get Local tools to be the first to plan a debate watching party in your community. Dean supporters from Alaska to Florida have already begun planning their events. Invite some friends over to watch Dean in action!

From the AZ Daily Star
Study: U.S. needs help to hold Iraq. A new congressional study shows that the Army lacks the active duty troops to keep the current occupation force in Iraq past March without getting extra help from other services and reserves or other nations, or without spending tens of billions to vastly expand its size. Mirages, Quagmires and 'Iraqification' - Joe Conason
--- Last Thursday, former Navy Secretary James Webb raked the president and his policies at an event in Norfolk, Va. Invited to deliver a lecture by the Naval War College Foundation and the Hampton Roads Naval Museum, the Marine veteran and conservative Republican told an audience of Navy officers and veterans that Bush had taken the nation to war under false pretenses, according to the daily Norfolk Virginian-Pilot.

"I am very troubled by the fact that we went into Iraq and very troubled about how we're going to get out of Iraq," he said, adding that the U.S. should substitute United Nations authority there as swiftly as possible. "We need to get out of there before the mistake we made gets worse," he said. He is worried because U.S. troops in Iraq are "facing combat experiences similar to those he saw as a platoon leader and company commander in Vietnam," the Virginian-Pilot reported. ---

Joe Conason's Journal. More U.S. troops have died in Iraq since President Bush declared victory than during the war. And -- finally -- critics from the left and right are beginning to sound off. [Salon.com]

From the Italian Blogosphere - Asteroid Impact 2014?
Deep Media Impact From Beppe's Network Games in the Blogospherico Italiano. (I made that term up. My Italian is SO rusty.) The Reuters article is in English. - G.S.

Deep media impact.
