Armed Liberal nails it right on the head when he says blogging is this decade's version of crack. And I understand where he's coming from because whether people are reading any of this stuff I put up here, I'm having fun.

However, it does take a toll on one's life that he discusses. One way to help that: get rid of significant other. That seems to have helped me out since I've been on a roll lately and can't seem to stop posting today. Second: less sleep which he discusses as well. I haven't gotten to that point but I can see it coming. Luckily, I don't much care for sleep anyway.

But one thing he talks about is how he hasn't done as much research as he'd like to on posts. Up until now (pretty much today) I've been using this as a stream of conscious sort of outlet, but today I've started thinking about some more in-depth kinds of posts. . .but these do take time and I'm wondering if I have the necessary dedication to make a half-ass attempt to become a decent writer.

It's probably a bad sign that I'm wondering about my dedication. . .I'm really still working on the feel and spirit of this site. . .

Interesting comments on Eldred If you aren't aware of the Eldred case recently decided in the Supreme Court, here's the short version: the Supreme Court ruled in favor of Congress' extension by 20 years of existing copyrights. Read this, this for the blog of the losing lawyer, this for the majority decision, this for Steven's dissent, and this for Breyer's dissent.

Hey if nothing else, I'm all about information. Basically, Eldred changed how intellectual property is treated by siding for the Disneys of the world. The idea, as I understand it, of copyright law is to make sure that the individual is adequately compensated for his work but that the public is not short-changed by keeping the work private forever.

AC-130 Gunship in action It becomes rapidly evident why we kicked ass in Afghanistan. This is grainy footage but it's apparent what's going on. . .starts getting exciting around two and a half minutes. . .

Dallas' Chief Problem Just what we need in Dallas, a police chief that no one believes in except a few of the city council members. . .I've only skimmed the article but it highlights many of the concerns that people have with Chief Bolton. . .

Study: Why IT implementations go bad. This caught my eye since I'm in the middle (well beginning but I feel like it's the middle) of designing a new IVR system at work. . .I have the feeling we're falling into some of these pitfalls, namely tracking the project accurately. . .

U.S. Plan to Monitor Muslims Meets With Widespread Protest. When will our fear be overcome by our sense of freedom and justice?  Eventually the incessant degradation of civil liberties brought on by knee-jerk reactions following 9-11 will have to reverse course. . .but how long will it take?

Flying in the Face of Infertility. More advances, using sturdy little Drosophila melanogaster, researchers have found a human gene that when injected into infertile flies, they became fertile again. . .lends promise to new infertility drug research and possibly a male contraceptive pill. . .though two facts make the latter unlikely. . .first, spermatogenesis takes 74 days in humans, meaning one would have to start taking the contraceptive way before sex and to quote the researcher "I'm not sure women would trust men to do that". . .second, men produce about 1000 sperm per second. . .wow. . .no wonder we have trouble thinking with our brains some times. . .

If you haven't seen Chicago, run go see it right now. . .unless you hate musicals. . .if that's the case, maybe you shouldn't go see it. . .but for everyone else, go see the movie. . .Catherine Zeta-Jones and Renee Zellwegger are excellent, Richard Gere more than holds his own, and the supporting case is fantastic. . .not to mention its sexually charged with more energy than you can shake a stick at. . .after several numbers, I had to consciously repress the urge to applaud, they were that good. . .
