100 things about me

"A person should hear a little music, read a little poetry, and see a fine picture every day in order that worldly cares may not obliterate the sense of the beautiful that God has implanted in the human soul." - Goethe

e. e. cummings - i have found what you are like (XVI)

i have found what you are like
the rain,

(Who feathers frightened fields with the superior dust-of-sleep. wields

easily the pale club of the wind and swirled justly souls of flower strike

the air in utterable coolness

deeds of green thrilling light with thinned

newfragile yellows

lurch and.press

-in the woods which stutter and

sing

And the coolness of your smile is stirringofbirds between my arms;but i should rather than anything have(almost when hugeness will shut quietly)almost, your kiss

"Is money money or isn’t money money. Everybody who earns it and spends it every day in order to live knows that money is money, anybody who votes it to be gathered in as taxes knows money is not money. Thatis what makes everybody go crazy.... When you earn money and spend money every day anybody can know the difference between a million and three. But when you vote money away there really is not any difference between a million and three."

Walmart pulls mom-to-be Midge

From USA Today...

Walmart has pulled a pregnant version of Barbie's oldest friend off the shelves after receiving customer complaints.  "The pregnant Midge, who wears a tiny white wedding ring, has a detachable magnetic stomach that allows easy "delivery" of the baby,"  Apparently, some parents think the doll is too Real for children.  Right.  Maybe for those who are taught that babies are delivered by flying birds.  READ MORE

New traditions

I hope everyone's having a great holiday.  This is our first Christmas together, Scott and I, and it's good.  We cooked a huge dinner for the kids and their boyfriends yesterday, and feasted on traditional southern treats all day.  My oldest, Carebear, even pronounced that I'd outdone myself this time.  After the meal, we all turned into little children and ripped open presents with much oooooing and awwwing.  Typically, the clothes I got the girls will have to be exchanged for one reason or another, but I had a good time picking them out.  This does not bother me.  It's traditional.  It's a girl thing.  We played games afterwards amidst mounds of torn paper and bows, and when the house got a little quieter, I settled on the couch with my new book of Emily Dickinson poetry.  Woke up this morning, having enjoyed the best night's sleep I've had in weeks ::smile::
