Circus CircusHaving a household full of pets isn't always fun. Over the past few days, Sugar went into heat (a little unexpectedly) and Elvis, being the macho king of catness, tried to take advantage of her at every opportunity. Our plan was to have them both neutered after New Year's, but Sugar (that tart!) is obviously on a different schedule than ours. So...all of Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and the weekend following, we've had to keep those two unruly, hormonal teens separated much to their dismay. Called the vet the day after Christmas to schedule Elvis' necessary and delicate de-machoing. This morning, bright and early, we scooped him up and drove him to pay a little visit to Dr. Ken, all the while whispering sweet "you'll never remember a thing" things in his ear. Picked up the King just a little while ago, and although heavily medicated to the point of not being able to hold his crown up, he's just fine. Dr. Ken says to expect a complete recovery by morning, though a higher pitched mewing can be expected... Second on our pet healthcare plan will be taking Dolly, our chow, for a checkup. I'm very worried about her, as we believe she might have arthritis. This is not good. She's in quite a bit of pain, and we started giving her two aspirins a day about three days ago. She's exhibited much more pain today than ever before, and it breaks my heart to know she's hurting. Dr. Ken says keep her on the aspirin for another week, it will take that long for it to do any good, if at all - then bring her in for an evaluation. I dread it so. Could be anything at this point - spine, neck, hip dysplasia, etc. All we can now is hope the aspirin starts giving her some relief. Dolly's 7 years old, and is just the sweetest dog ever :) As for the new pup...well, she's ALL PUPPY. Weighed 16 lbs. when she arrived on our doorstep two weeks ago. 20 lbs. today. We still don't know what mix of breed she is - maybe a malamute mix, maybe a husky mix. There's no telling how big she'll grow up to be. Sweet as molasses, that Belle. In the midst of all the kitty courtin' and Christmasin', Belle enjoyed the company of Kramer, our "grand-pup" (yes, we ridiculously agreed to babysit for an entire day while daughter and soon to be son-in-law moved). A lesson in math: 1 Belle + 1 Kramer = CHAOS. As for our little tart, Sugar...she's back to "normal" after several days of not knowing what hit her. We'll spay her very soon, and in the meantime she'll continue with her blanket nursing and toe fetish...but that's another story entirely. Having to go back to the office today wasn't such a bad thing... 5:22:52 PM ![]()
