100 things about me

"A person should hear a little music, read a little poetry, and see a fine picture every day in order that worldly cares may not obliterate the sense of the beautiful that God has implanted in the human soul." - Goethe

Can we move on now?

Christmas, so it seems, is never-ending.  Another gathering, another kitchen to clean up, more trashbags to fill with wrapping paper, and hours of forced smalltalk to look forward to this afternoon.  I'm ready to move on.  It's 2003 for heaven's sake!  At least we'll have the little ones (my two beautiful nieces) to entertain us with their squeals of delight over new babydolls and (thank god for) Playschool toys.  Sometimes when I look at those children, I become wistful.  Wistful for babies.  Sweet-smelling, tiny-fingered, snuggly babies.  But it passes.  Pretty damn quick.

New Year's Eve was mighty uneventful at our house.  Never been a big fan of New Year's, rarely attended fancy schmancy parties (although I have worn a lampshade or two in my younger, more intoxicated years), and we prefer saving the fireworks for the bedroom.  The quiet was bliss, and before the ball dropped on our brown shingled roof, we were snuggled deep under the quilts - two weary dreamers sleeping like spoons.  Thank you, God, for giving us silence.  It ranks right up there with sunshine...
