"A person should hear a little music, read a little poetry, and see a fine picture every day in order that worldly cares may not obliterate the sense of the beautiful that God has implanted in the human soul." - Goethe
Oh, I have slipped the surly bonds of earth. And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings, Sunward I've climbed and joined the tumbling mirth Of sun-split clouds - and done a hundred things You have not dreamed of - wheeled and soared and swung High in the sunlit silence. Hov'ring there, I've chased the shouting wind along and flung My eager craft through footless halls of air. Up, up the long delirious, burning blue I've topped the wind swept heights with easy grace, Where never lark, or even eagle, flew; And, while with silent, lifting mind i've trod The high untrespassed sanctity of space, Put out my hand, and touched the face of God. --John Gillespie Magee Jr.
The space shuttle, Columbia, has exploded over Texas while on its way for a scheduled landing in Florida. We are watching the events unfold on television right now. What a terribly horrific event. Seven crew members, including the first astronaut from Israel are on board. God bless them, be with them and their families.
Columbia was carrying a crew of seven astronauts: commander Rick Husband, pilot Willie McCool and mission specialists Kalpana Chawla, Laurel Clark, Mike Anderson, David Brown and Israeli payload specialist Ilan Ramon. None survived.
