100 things about me

"A person should hear a little music, read a little poetry, and see a fine picture every day in order that worldly cares may not obliterate the sense of the beautiful that God has implanted in the human soul." - Goethe

Quote of the day
"I mean, Louis, the world isn't ever the same place it used to be.  It's a disagreeable and unfortunate fact, but Louis," Daddy told me, "it is a fact."

---from A Short History of a Small Place by T. R. Pearson

JUST SHUT UP

"Nobody gives a shit what anti-war or pro-war writers think. Really. So shut up. That goes double for poets. Shut the hell up, poets. Everybody just shut up."

Read all of it. Please.

Instructions for developing your inner child

"ATTENTION ALL GROWNUPS. Your "inner child" has long been waiting for a chance to usurp control of your body and force it to perform certain actions. The time is now at hand. Read and follow the instructions below. Do this now." via...The Presurfer

My favorite:

Do the Celestial Crawl
On a cloudless warm night, walk around until you can put a nearby building or tree very close to a bright star in the eastern sky. Now lay on the ground and move yourself until the corner of the building or the top of the tree just BARELY covers that star. Wait a moment. The star will reappear. Wiggle along to cover up the star again. It reappears. Keep wiggling along. (Um... notice that the entire Earth is rotating beneath you?)

Man in the mirror
I watched the Michael Jackson interview on Fox last night - the "behind the scenes" from the original interview aired previously.  Honestly, I came away from it feeling a great deal of sympathy for Michael and his children.  It's obvious the original interview conducted by Martin Bashir was totally biased and sensationalized beyond belief, and I thought "what a jerk..." when I heard him patronizing Michael just to get him to open up.  I enjoyed hearing what Debbie, the ex-wife and mother of two of the children, had to say.  She seemed so sincere and down-to-earth, and although I do not understand her motives, I couldn't help but find her believable.  No, I don't think it's appropriate for this man to have children sleeping in his bed.  I read the deposition that was published on the web which was given by the 13-yr. old boy, and truthfully I don't know what to believe.  Could it have been contrived?  Of course.  The only thing to come of it was a $25 million dollar transaction.  So, who knows?  The entire thing is bizarre.  Michael's behavior is bizarre.  But the bottom line is, the Bashir guy is the one who ended up looking like the idiot...

Friday Five

1. What is your most prized material possession?  my computer, of course

2. What item, that you currently own, have you had the longest?  a brown and tan little stuffed doggie my Grandpa gave me when I was three yrs. old

3. Are you a packrat?  Yes...and so is the rest of my family

4. Do you prefer a spic-and-span clean house? Or is some clutter necessary to avoid the appearance of a museum?  Housecleaning is for wimps

5. Do the rooms in your house have a theme? Or is it a mixture of knick-knacks here and there?  Oh sure! Every room has a theme; messy, messier, messiest
