"A person should hear a little music, read a little poetry, and see a fine picture every day in order that worldly cares may not obliterate the sense of the beautiful that God has implanted in the human soul." - Goethe
Homer: You know, when I was a boy, I really wanted a catcher's mitt, but my dad wouldn't get it for me. So I held my breath until I passed out and banged my head on the coffee table. [cheerily] The doctor thought I might have brain damage.
I hear the Shadowy Horses, their long manes a-shake, Their hoofs heavy with tumult, their eyes glimmering white; The North unfolds above them clinging, creeping night, The East her hidden joy before the morning break, The West weeps in pale dew and sighs passing away, The South is pouring down roses of crimson fire: O vanity of Sleep, Hope, Dream, endless Desire, The Horses of Disaster plunge in the heavy clay: Beloved, let your eyes half close, and your heart beat Over my heart, and your hair fall over my breast, Drowning love's lonely hour in deep twilight of rest, And hiding their tossing manes and their tumultuous feet.
I have a pretty cool boss. I mean, what other boss in the world would tolerate the fact that I scrunched up my face and actually stuck my tongue out at him? Instead of firing me, he replied to my blatant childish outburst by saying "You may have gotten away with that with your mother, but it won't work with me!" Then he laughed one of those big, deep belly laughs and promptly grounded me. I got home thirty minutes early :) 5:15:35 PM
Received a nice little suprise in the mailbox this afternoon...a 2.5 oz. package of Starbucks House Blend Coffee - courtesy of Bi-Lo, one of the grocery stores I hit at least three times a week. I've never been a big fan of those discount cards stores force on consumers, even though I have one myself. It seems to be the only way to shop and still be eligible for the sale prices, but I know my personal buying habits are tracked. All the local stores are doing it now. The freebies are nice, however. I suppose their database includes the amount of coffee we buy each month and the brand we prefer (not to mention the amount of dog and cat food we go through or the brand of feminine hygeine products I use). I'd never buy Starbucks - way too expensive - but it'll be a nice change of pace in the morning. Maybe next week they'll send something we can really use...
