100 things about me

"A person should hear a little music, read a little poetry, and see a fine picture every day in order that worldly cares may not obliterate the sense of the beautiful that God has implanted in the human soul." - Goethe

Quote of the day

Those who shun the "bad taste" of things will fall flat on the ice. --Pablo Neruda

Monday's musing

A very nice weekend here, and we spent most of the day yesterday at Books-A-Million where we purchased a nice variety of new reads using a 20% off coupon they'd sent to me for the President's Day Sale.  My choices included the  Schroeder's Antiques Price Guide (21st Edition), Flesh and Blood by Jonathan Kellerman, and Five Decades: Poems 1925-1970 Pablo Neruda.  I've always enjoyed the Alex Delaware mysteries, and although the reviews weren't that great, I've read about a third of it thus far and think it's pretty good.  I can get into a trashy novel now and then, and I was ready for one.  The book of poetry is considered by some to be a poor translation of Neruda's work, but I'm enjoying it as well.  I did, however, order another book of Neruda poetry today - Full Woman, Fleshly Apple, Hot Moon: Selected Poems of Pablo Neruda - and can't wait until it arrives.  Scott says the translation is much better, and I'll be able to compare the two.  The poetry selection at the store was not very impressive, so I was happy to come home with at least one of Neruda's collections.

I also managed to make it in to T J Maxx which is located right beside the bookstore, and picked up a new purse, a lace camisole and a new mattress pad for our bed.  We had lunch at the Steak-n-Shake where we were surrounded by a group of junior varsity highschool cheerleaders making their way home from competitions that were held in Chattanooga over the weekend.  Cute kids, and they reminded me of my daughters who were both highschool cheerleaders and were lucky enough to win competitions of their own.

Today was just another typical Monday, but around 2:00 PM the day brightened considerably when one of my employees brought in a little black and white puppy for me to babysit while he finished his shift.  Half Jack Russell and half Spitz.  What a cutie!  About 8 weeks old, and just the most loving little thing.  He slept under my desk the rest of the afternoon right by my feet, and only peed on my floor one time.  I almost brought him home with me, but gawd I have a zoo living here now.  Maybe I could keep him in my office and no one would ever find out?  Hmmm....

Since tonight is obviously ratings night for network television, we are in a bit of a quandry as what to watch.  Joe Millionaire, Michael Jackson or Bill O'Reilly.   I can also get into a little trash tv, and could use a good healthy dose about now.  So tired of hearing about war and war protesters and such as that...and I know I'm not alone when I say that.

Ribeye steaks and french fries for dinner topped off with a salad and a dish of orange sherbet for dessert - that's my menu for the evening.

Cheers :)
