UVCN
Phil Windley met today with entities representing the Utah Valley Community Network. The Utah Education Network (UEN) has also established a project goal to assist the Utah Valley Community Network group in establishing a Community Network exchange. They have a couple of additional goals that include partnering with the State in working on these types of community networks and putting together a statewide security summit that I think we should include in our plans. Floyd Ritter has set up a meeting to discuss the possibility of creating a metro fibre network that could provide support for UTOPIA and other initiatives, including the State.

Recreation Portal
We met yesterday with Charlie Grymes, who is the Project Manager for the recreation.gov initiative. Charlie has an excellent vision for the project and the associated recml standards. He also does an award-winning show for GMU-TV entitled Virginia Journeys.
Charlie is supporting the development of a "RECML" standard that will be used in sharing recreation-related data. Version 1.0 is available. Our purpose yesterday was to look at ways to integrate GIS into that standard. Utah's AGRC is a leader in establishing publicly available GIS data that can be shared for a wide variety of applications.
Recreation.gov data is available for all kinds of commercial and non-profit applications through the XML interface.
