Interesting - Mozilla as a threat to Microsoft...

http://www.salon.com/tech/feature/2002/09/10/browser_wars/index.html

My browser of choice is Chimera which, although in an early stage, runs circles around anything else for the features I want (mostly). It and Omniweb are the most beautiful of any brower I've seen.

Canned at HP for his unfriendly comments about Microsoft

Bruce Perkins has created a webpage that counters the Initiative for Software Choice backed by Microsoft.

The recent note about used CD stores generated quite a bit of feedback. The really interesting point is what is the position of the recording industry on secondary sales without coins falling into the accounts of the recording industry.

I don't find an official position of the RIAA on the subject, although they have been talking about requiring a tax on secondary sales.

Somehow I think it is time to create organizations and distribution channels that disintermediate the major record companies. I really believe that the musicians would end up making more in most cases and the public would pay less. There is also a chance that choice would be much greater.

It would be interesting if people would concentrate on buying and selling used CDs for a few months. If a 5% change showed up we would have the majors screaming and demanding their money. In the current game they can probably get it, but the current game is rigged. It is time to create a new game.

By the way - 100GB hard disks are approaching $100.

I will probably stay away from the blog for a few days in respect for 911. Seeing the second plane hit left too much of a memory. The media has been and will continue to be saturated with commentary and I will offer the following.

About a week after the event I trekked to the city to offer whatever services might be helpful. Everyone else was doing the same thing and matters seemed well in hand in Manhattan. In looking for something to do I was fortunately enough to work with a half dozen real heros.

The search dogs being used were terribly depressed. Their training is reinforced by actually finding someone alive. They were getting torn up with sharp and hot objects and only finding mangled and burned pieces of human beings.

My job was to hide in an old Jersey City warehouse where demoralized dogs were asked to find me. They were completely thrilled to find me - shaking, wagging their tails, covering me with kisses and barking excitedly. All of them were too excited to worry about the doggie goodies in my pockets. This went on for a full day with some of the dogs finding me over ten times.

It was an honor to work with such heros.
