Verizon appears to be offering faster/cheaper DSL in some areas (1.5mbps down and $35 a month).
This may be a better deal than cable for many people and will probably put a real squeeze on other DSL providers.

Years ago Steve and I spent time near Helena, Montana sapphire hunting. The trick is to go down to bedrock (fueled by A&W root beer on a hot day). Now you can have them mail gravel concentrate to you.
The ideal gift for the person who has everything ... and they have to do the work -- they may be throwing away a $2000 stone...
