Alfred Hitchcock employed the Macguffin - a device or plot element that catches the viewer’s attention or drives the plot, but is not part of the main plot.

It would seem that the Bush administration is also well schooled in its use and some intelligence officers are not amused.

(the use of the term Macguffin to describe the administrations use of manipulated WMD "data" as a vehicle for justifying war is becoming popular ... I've had several people use it in emails over the past week)

Two solar coronal mass ejections struck the Earth yesterday producing an auroral display that was visible over much of the US. A third will strike today and the conditions are good for potential auroras everywhere tonight. Check the sky after local sunset.

An event like this is very rare.
