NPR recently ran a spot on chicken tic tac toe ... it seems that chickens are being trained to demolish human opposition in casinos around the country.

Tic-tac-toe playing chickens aren't new. A place in NYC has had a string of them for years. a bit of searching ... (I don't know if this is true -- we are talking about a legendary chicken. On the other hand I haven't seen a chicken in the famous place for about that many years)

tick-tock, tick-tock ....

Last night Prairie Home Company had Garrison Keillor and Stephanie Davis singing a song that I remember learning in the sixth grade in Montana.

(and from vague memory aided by PHC - there are other verses that escape me)

I ride an old paint and I lead an old dam
I'm goin' to Montana to throw the hoolian
They feed 'em in the coulees, they water in the draw
Their tails are all matted, their backs are all raw

Ride around little dogies, ride around them slow
For the Fiery and Snuffy are raring to go

Old Bill Jones had a daughter and a son
Son went to college and the daughter went wrong
His wife got killed in a poolroom fight
Still he keeps singing from morning till night

Ride around little dogies, ride around them slow
For the Fiery and Snuffy are raring to go

My feet are in the stirrups, my hand is on the horn
I'm the best old cowboy that ever was born
But a cowboy rides single, like it or not
So I guess that old paint is the best friend I got

Ride around, little dogies, ride around them slow
For the fiery and snuffy are a rarin' to go.

When I die take my saddle from the wall
Put it on to my pony, lead him out of his stall
Tie my bones to his back, turn our faces to the west
And we'll ride the prairie that we love the best

Ride around little dogies, ride around them slow
For the Fiery and Snuffy are raring to go

A version with modified verse can be found on an old PHC archive 20:08 in the program - you get an idea of the tune.

For those of you into regional accents, Stephanie's is the real thing from Montana.
